Late Arsenal move for Rodrygo questioned as Mikel Arteta prepares new front line for Liverpool

We can get swallowed up in the swell of the summer transfer window. That 'shiny new toy syndrome' as I like to refer to it as grips many Arsenal supporters so tightly that you can even forget just how great what you already have is.

From the Gunners' perspective, they have had an incredible window so far, and there is a chance that it is not yet over. Seven signings have been made, with a record amount spent and some major acquisitions, with the ambition of turning that investment into trophies.

It is not just the signings themselves but the manner in which the deals have been done. The shrewdness of some of the fees, the speed at which they have been turned around in many cases - Eberechi Eze in particular. And just how ruthless sporting director Andrea Berta's business has been viewed.

However, some still want more. The player at the centre of this arguable gluttony is Real Madrid's Rodrygo.

The Brazilian remains a Los Blancos player and recently did manage to get some minutes in La Liga under Xabi Alonso. However, when substituted, he was pictured slamming his clothing down on the ground in frustration.

Alonso has been consistent on the matter, as he values the player and wants him in the squad. However, there are many instances when players need to play, and it is a World Cup year, which has led to plenty of speculation about an exit.

Arsenal's left side has been facing plenty of scrutiny, with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard so far insufficient to establish themselves as the undisputable starters. Noni Madueke has come in, too, but he is more thought of as competition and cover for Bukayo Saka, which is very timely considering his current hamstring injury.

Yet, despite the calls to add Rodrygo, Arsenal have enough. In addition to Madueke, the club has also added Eze, who can feature as a No.10, left eight, or, most importantly, wide left role. Not to mention the excitement surrounding Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri.

In many fans' dream scenarios, the Arsenal front three will be Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres and for good reason. The Gunners finally have an operator on the left who could rival Saka’s importance and eventually we will get to see it.

Add to this Rodrygo’s potential price tag of €90million (£77million), even as a loan move, a move to Arsenal is not adding up. The Gunners hope to bring in Piero Hincapie if Jakub Kiwior does leave, and with that the summer should be wrapped up and it might be Rodrygo goes elsewhere in which case it should not be a deal Mikel Arteta would regret missing out on.
