Asia Cup 2025 Super 4: IND in Final & SL Out of Race; PAK vs BAN Straightforward Knockout

India sealed their place in the Asia Cup 2025 final with a game in hand when they crushed Bangladesh by 41 runs in the Super 4. India made 168/6 mainly thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s 75 and then bundled Bangladesh out for 127. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with 3/18.

This means India’s last Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 game vs Sri Lanka on September 26 is redundant as it does not have an impact on their progress. Sri Lanka on the other hand are out of the competition having lost to Bangladesh and Pakistan by four wickets and five wickets respectively in the Super 4. India has beaten Pakistan by six wickets in their first Super 4 game.

A loss for India would have opened the Super 4 wide and Sri Lanka would have a slim chance of making it to the final. But now even a win in their last match vs India is not enough. For India, a loss vs Sri Lanka has no impact either as they are already through.

This also means that the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match later tonight is a virtual knockout. The winner will face India in the final on September 28 and the loser will miss out. With two games left, one team is through and another one out. That means two teams are fighting for the last spot and will face off to do so. If it is India vs Pakistan, then it will be the first time the rivals will face off in the summit clash of the Asia Cup. Should Bangladesh make it, it will be their fourth final and third vs India. Pakistan have won the Asia Cup twice but never in the T20I format, India have won it eight times out of which is in the T20I format. Bangladesh are yet to win it at all.

So will we see an India vs Pakistan Asia Cup final for the first time or shall Bangladesh lift the trophy and we get to see a new champion? Pakistan were the last to win the Asia Cup for the first time in 2000. Sri Lanka won the first of their six in 1986 and India’s maiden title came in 1984 which was also the first-ever Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup 2025 is the first step of India’s preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026. Since winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, India have won 22 out of 25 T20Is including all five in Asia Cup 2025. Out of their last 45 T20Is, India have won 40 which is just amazing. Will they lift the tournament on September 28? Only time will tell!
