The Indian instant messaging app Arattai, developed by Zoho, had quickly gained popularity upon its launch, even topping the charts on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. However, its ranking recently dropped, and one major reason cited was the absence of end-to-end encryption (E2E) for chats—a key feature that ensures user privacy.
Addressing these concerns, Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu shared an important update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). When a user asked about the timeline for introducing E2E in Arattai, Vembu replied that the feature is currently undergoing multiple rounds of testing and quality assurance. He confirmed that end-to-end encryption will be rolled out soon.
The introduction of E2E encryption could help regain users' trust in Arattai, as privacy remains a top concern for messaging app users. This feature will ensure that only the sender and receiver can read messages, safeguarding conversations from any external access—including by Arattai itself.
Currently, Arattai offers end-to-end encryption for calls, but not for chats. Once implemented, this update will bring Arattai closer to competing with platforms like WhatsApp, which already provide full end-to-end encryption for all communications.
