Ration Card: The Indian government is implementing a major reform of the ration card system from September 30, 2025. The move aims to directly benefit poor and middle-class families and make the food distribution system more transparent and technology-based.
Financial help will be provided every month
Under the new system, all eligible ration card holders will receive ₹1,000 per month directly into their bank accounts via DBT. Importantly, if the card is in a woman's name, the amount will be transferred directly to her account, promoting women's empowerment.
Now other food items will be available along with wheat and rice.
Now, ration card holders will receive not only wheat and rice but also pulses, oil, salt, and other nutritious food items. Ration quantities have been set differently for general and Antyodaya card holders.
Digital Ration Card and e-KYC
Under the new rules, ration cards will be completely digital. Ration distribution will be done through biometric verification and QR codes. New rules have been enacted to prevent counterfeit cards and corruption. E-KYC and Aadhaar linking will be mandatory for all beneficiaries over the age of 5.
One Nation One Ration Card
This facility will be further strengthened for migrant laborers and those working abroad. This will allow beneficiaries to collect their rations from anywhere in the country. Ration shop management and cardholders will prioritize women. Eligible families will receive six to eight subsidized gas cylinders annually.
Relief for farmers
Farmer families will be provided with free, high-quality seeds. Furthermore, all ration card-related tasks, such as adding, deleting, or changing addresses, can now be completed entirely online. Only families whose income is within the prescribed limit will be eligible for the scheme's benefits. Government employees and duplicate card holders will be excluded. Digital verification will prevent fraud.
