The British high street has been hit by another blow, as 52 shops have shut or are set to close their doors this month. Poundland will close 10 stores across the nation on August 10, followed by another 15 on August 17.
A final dozen will turn off their lights on August 24. Darren MacDonald, retail director at Poundland, expressed his regret over the closures: "It is, of course, sincerely regrettable that our recovery plans include any store closures, but sadly that's necessary if we're to achieve our goal of securing the future of thousands of jobs and hundreds of stores."
He added: "It goes without saying that we will work closely with colleagues through a formal consultation process in stores scheduled to close, exploring any suitable alternative roles."
Yet, Poundland is not the only chain facing closures. Here's a full list of shops closing in August.
