A showdown will go down between two Clarkson's Farm stars later this week. Jeremy Clarkson's latest venture has seen him swap turbo engines for turf and hooves as he decided to team up with Old Gold Racing and Hawkstone Brewery to launch a public racing syndicate horse.
On Thursday, November 6, both Jeremy and Gerald Cooper will have their Old Gold Racing syndicate horses racing on the same card at Sedgefield Racecourse - meaning that they will be competing against each other. Jeremy's horse, aptly named The Hawkstonian after his Diddly Squat beer, will take to the track in the Novices' Hurdle at 1.55pm, marking his first outing over hurdles. Then, just 35 minutes later, it'll be Gerald's turn. His horse, Whatyouwaitingfor, trained by Charlie Longsdon, will line up in the Novices' Handicap Chase at 2.30pm. Without even racing yet, Gerald's horse has already captured the hearts of many. The much-loved farmhand from the hit Amazon documentary is raising awareness forProstate Cancer UK through Gerald's Charity Syndicate and has already raised £28,500.
Old Gold Racing chief executive, Ed Seyfried, said: "We couldn't have scripted it better! Two Clarkson's Farm legends, two great syndicates, and two races back-to-back - it's a fantastic showcase for syndicate racehorse ownership through Old Gold Racing.
"Whether you're Team Clarkson or Team Gerald, everyone's a winner when it comes to supporting the sport and great causes. We can't wait to see which team holds the bragging rights on Thursday."
Clarkson bought his horse for £39,000 at the Goffs Arkle Sale in 2023. The grey gelding is trained by Ben Pauling in the Cotswolds - not far from Clarkson's now-famous Diddly Squat Farm.
The animal expert called the horse "a joy to train" as he noted the gelding's professionalism at home and his promising temperament.
Promotional videos from Clarkson have featured him introducing the horse as his "pet".
He also quipped: "I know a bit about horsepower and this one doesn't need an oil change."
