Tuna filling is tasty no matter if you are adding it to sandwiches, salads or even a hearty pasta, but it can feel really greasy if you are making it with mayonnaise. Most people use mayonnaise in their sandwich fillings as it helps make them much creamier, but can often be really fatty and add a horrible slimy texture that is not very appetising to eat.
However, Lisa Goldfinger, a cook and founder of Panning the Globe, has shared there is a really simple alternative to mayonnaise that will still make tuna delicious, as all you need is a dollop of yoghurt. Lisa said: "Low-fat plain yoghurt has the creamy consistency and tangy flavours that blend so deliciously with briny tuna. And the healthiness of yoghurt is an added bonus. It's naturally high in calcium and has gut-friendly probiotics, in addition to being low in fat."

Yoghurt is naturally thick and creamy, so using it will ensure your tuna filling will still have a tasty texture while also feeling a lot lighter.
Mayonnaise is very heavy and calorie dense, as even two to four tablespoons can add between 180 and 360 calories to your tuna.
However, yoghurt is not only healthier but it can add some tanginess to the tuna to help brighten up the tuna flavours, as well as the other seasoning in this recipe.
Yoghurt really compliments lemon juice and can also help balance out the saltiness of the tuna and capers which helps you get a richer flavour.
Swapping mayonnaise to yoghurt is simple but will help make the tuna filling more enjoyable while still being really easy to make.
You will need:
- One can of water-packed tuna (drained)
- 120ml of plain low-fat yoghurt (not Greek yoghurt)
- Three tablespoons of finely chopped radishes (or celery)
- Three tablespoons of finely red onion
- Two tablespoons of small capers (one tablespoon chopped and one tablespoon left whole)
- Two teaspoons of Dijon mustard
- One teaspoon of lemon juice
- Salt
Method:
To begin, open the can of tuna, drain the water and place the tuna in a bowl. Then, mash it thoroughly with a fork.
Add the yoghurt, radishes, onions, capers (chopped and whole), mustard, lemon juice and salt to the bowl.
Make sure to add more lemon juice or salt if you need to adjust the flavour If you want the tuna filling to be creamier, then add more yoghurt.
Mix everything together and your tuna filling is ready to use for a light lunch, tasty dinner or even to take to a picnic to enjoy the last of the summer weather.
